Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna acted in a number of movies (a total of 6 movies) together in the 1970's, with Hera Pheri being one of them (Amar Akbar Anthony was the most famous of these). Hera Pheri was directed by Prakash Mehra, and starred Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Saira Banu, Sulakshana Pandit, Shreeram Lagoo and Asrani. The movie had one nomination for the Filmfare Award, with Vinod Khanna being nominated for Best Supporting Actor (although he did not win). The movie had some popular music by the music director duo of Kalyanji-Anandji, and the movie script was written by Satish Bhatnagar and Vijay Kaul.
The movie was popular, although it can get complicated. Like many other movies of that period, it showcases the hero (or heroes) as criminals, but good-hearted criminals. They are not terrorists, they don't go around shooting people with guns or something, but they steal jewelery from rich people, or they steal from rich houses, and so on.

The story of this movie is based on the relationship between 2 friends, Ajay (Vinod Khanna) and vijay (a person by the name of Vijay cannot be anybody other than Amitabh Bachchan). Vijay saves Ajay when Ajay is going to jump in front of a train, and ever since then, they became the best of friends. Ajay was sold by his father to get money for his mother's illness, and then his foster parents died, so Ajay was rendered homeless; Vijay on the other hand is troubled by the story of his parents. His father was killed, and it was on that night that his mother turned mad, and he is looking for how to cure her (maybe getting the murderer would help in doing that).
The twist in the story is that the person who killed Vijay's father is actually Ajay's long lost father (the one who sold him away and now seeks him desperately, as much as he seeks to kill Vijay's mother (she witnessed the murder of her husband and is a witness)). In order to get medication for his mom, Vijay plays a con man who, along with Ajay, cons people to earn money. When Ajay finally finds his father, he changes sides and goes to his father, leaving Vijay. What happens next ?
Reshma Aur Shera was one of the earlier movies of Amitabh Bachchan, at a time when he was not the established superstar. The movie is an account of betrayal, love, murder, honour, set against the backdrop of the sands and harshness of Rajasthan. The movie was essentially the creation of Sunil Dutt, who also produced and directed the movie.
The movie was well liked by critics, and was nominated for some international (although it did not win too many). Some of the awards it was nominated for include:
- The Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival
- Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film (Oscars)
The movie was written by S. Ali Raza, with some beautiful music by Jaidev (for which he won the 1972 National Film Award for Best Music Direction (his first award for music)).
The movie is about the feud between 2 families, and in a story that has been seen many times, where the children of both families are in love. The eldest son of Sagat Singh, Shera (Sunil Dutt) is not the more violent and revenge seeking son, trying to make peace. He is very strongly attracted to the daughter Reshma (Waheeda Rehman) of his father's rival, and she also falls in love with him when she sees how he can be strong for peace rather than for more revenge.
And yet there is a third element, the younger son of Sagat Sing, the mute Chotu (Amitabh Bachchan, who plays the role of a skilled shooter, also heavily influenced by his father). Eventually Chotu goes against the wishes of his brother in terms of not having violence and going in for peace and influenced by his father who wants Chotu to shoot the rival and his son both. And they both die; this causes Shera to hunt for his own brother to kill him. What happens next ?
How many people are there who would not have heard of this movie ? Yaadon Ki Baarat is one incredible movie, full of masala, full of some great music, with a murder, and then the quest for revenge on somebody whom the children of the killed cannot even identify, and then you have the capers of a thief (who works with somebody who is actually the killer), and you have a very enjoyable movie. And when you add a delectable Zeenat Aman, you get a really incredible movie.
The movie was made by Nasir Hussain, who produced and directed the movie. The movie starred some of the bigger stars, and some of the not so large ones, with the cast comprising of Dharmendra, Zeenat Aman, Vijay Arora, Tariq, and Neetu Singh.
The movie had some great songs, with 'Chura Liya Hain Tumne' being a song that is remembered and played even now, and music was provided by RD Burman. The script for the movie was provided by the famous pair of Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan. One lesser know fact about the movie was that it starred Aamir Khan as a cute young boy (the youngest of the 3 children shown in the movie).
The movie is a classic story about siblings separated early, when they are very young, and who meet later in life (and then realize much later that they are brothers). An artist, who defies a gang, is killed by them with the young children of the couple witnessing the murder. When running away, they get separated. They all have different life styles, with the eldest becoming a skilled burglar, the second one being a normal (not wealthy) person, and the youngest one becoming a singer. All they remember is a childhood song called 'Yaadon Ki Baarat'.
They do meet up several times but cannot associate any relationship between them; and go through various relationships (with the middle one played by Vijay Arora falling in love with Zeenat Aman after pretending to be a rich man, when his secret is out, Zeenat is shocked at the deception). The main story however is that of Shankar, the eldest one, played by Dharmendra, who is trying to find the murdered of his parents, and eventually realizes that the one whom he works for is the murderer.
Sometimes you come across a movie that shakes you a lot, and which leaves a promise that there is a space for movie making that is different from the standard cliches, or romances, or manufactured tragedies. 'A Wednesday' is a movie that I got around to watching much after the movie was released, and I was thoroughly impressed. You may not agree with everything that the movie propounds, but you cannot be but impressed by the pace of the movie, by some superb acting from the various stars, by the ability to leave you sympathizing with a person who directs acts of murder, and eventually admiring the director, Neeraj Pandey, who dared to make a movie with no main female lead in a romantic situation, and most of all, a movie without any songs. The movie certainly was not a rich action sequences laden movie such as 'Singh in King', but given a choice, I would rather watch a movie like 'A Wednesday'. This was a movie that gained extremely from word of mouth, colleagues who had seen the movie gave enthusiastic reviews, and I would do the same if somebody asked me.
Without revealing the end, the twist in the movie as well as the impassioned speech by the bomb maker comes at the end of a gripping movie, and keep you on your seats till the final credits come to an end. The performances by Anupam Kher, Naseeruddin Shah, Jimmy Shergill and Deepal Shaw are all first rate, and the fact that they are able to make their presence felt in such a short movie (1.5) hours makes the performances even more creditable. The movie also introduces the concept of a backlash by the 'stupid, common man'; all of us who live in a city and go to our work places, and some of whom die in bomb blasts that happen in our cities. The movie is about the flashback by a retired police commissioner of Bombay, Prakash Rathod [Anupam Kher]. He remembers an incident that happened in the space of 4 hours, on a normal weekday afternoon, the details of the incident not being present on any file or records (only in the memory of those involved). He gets a call from an anonymous caller about bombs kept in the city at different locations, and for defusing which, 4 Muslim terrorists in police custody needed to be rounded up from their separate locations. The caller, Naseeruddin Shah, situated on the top of a building, almost like a picnic, makes the police believe in his story when he discloses the location of a bomb right in the police station next to the police headquarters. Anupam Kher gets complete authority from the Chief Minister to handle the negotiations, and gets down to business. He is obviously dealing with a person who knows how to conduct himself, defeating attempts to track his details. Eventually, inspite of a crack team and some fast police work, spear headed by a hot headed police officer (Jimmy Shergill in a great role), Anupam Kher is forced to follow all of the directions he is given, till the time that the terrorists are transported to an air field in Juhu. If you have not watched the movie, you should watch it.
Imtihaan was a movie released in 1995, starring Sunny Deol, Raveena Tandon, and Saif Ali Khan. Saif was relatively young in the movie industry at that point of time, and it showed on screen (he comes across as a gangly youth, moving with energy, but still to show his renowned acting abilities that he showed in later movies). The movie was directed by Harry Baweja, and had music by Anu Malik. The movie did average business, but the songs were a big hit. The movie had one selling point, it had an element of suspense, something not always well executed. However, and maybe people who saw this movie for the first time would feel, the suspense is not always the type of suspense you see in American movies, since a lot of people in the audience were able to predict as to what would happen when the suspense breaks, and here too, the story was predictable.
The movie has some elements of romance, widow remarriage, revenge, parenting, etc thrown in. Preeti (Raveena) is a rich girl in love with her college friend Rajat (Sunny Deol), and they decide to marry even though her father opposes this relationship. However, on their honeymoon, disaster strikes when they are attacked by criminals and Rajat dies with his body not being recovered. Preeti is in shock, and her father is not able to make her feel better. However, a young singer Saif Ali Khan starts liking Preeti, and although she rebuffs him, her father encourages him. Eventually, they marry even though Raveena is still not interested, and she rebuffs him after marriage. Soon, however, his passion breaks through and she starts liking him. After some time, things start to change. Preeti apparently starts to hide things, gets phone calls, and so on, and there is enough to make Saif suspicious of her behaviour. In addition, she starts to get close to a young kid at an orphanage, and Saif starts shadowing. He soon finds out who is behind all this, and it is eventually an alive Sunny who wants his own son back (the one whom Preeti gave birth to and whom she was told was dead). And then the criminals gets involved, and eventually Sunny defeats them, at the cost of his own life.

Omkara (release in 2006) was a much awaited movie. Director Vishal Bhardwaj had earlier made a name for himself with Makdee and Maqbool (starring an incredible performance by Irfan Khan), and his Hindi interpretation of Shakespeare's Othello had already lead to much anticipation, with the prospect of Saif Ali Khan playing a baddie's role being much awaited. The movie delivered, but not too much as Vishal would have thought. It won a great amount of critical acclaim, and extreme kudos for the 2 best performances of Saif Ali Khan and Konkona Sen. Vivek Oberoi and Kareina Kapoor won praise, while the performance of Ajay Devgun could have been better - much more is expected out of an actor who has given a performance like Gangajal.
No matter, the movie belongs to Saif Ali Khan. His portrayal of the angry avenger Iago is brilliant. The movie would have been a commercial success if not for the dark atmosphere of the movie, and the crude dialog (replete with the Hindi curse words that you would hear in such a setting, but which inhibit more families and larger audiences from attending). Further, the portrayal of the settings of a rural UP are not exactly geared for wider commercial. Having said that, the movie did very well in markets abroad such as the US and British markets. Ajay Devgun plays Omkara (Othello), Kareena Kapoor plays Dolly Mishra (Desdemona), Konkona Sen Sharma plays Indu (Iago's wife Emilia), Vivek Oberoi plays Kesu 'the firangi' (since he is from the city) (Cassio), and Bipasha Basu plays Billo Chamanbahar (Bianca). Omkara is a local bahubali, a person capable of getting things done as well as controlling a criminal gang, and thus very valuable to the local politician Tiwari Bhaisaab (Naseeruddin Shah). This helps him right in the beginning when he elopes with Dolly and her father objects. When his daughter states that she was not abducted, but eloped on her own, he feels ashamed. This is a small twist in the story. The main story is when Tiwari moves onto a bigger role and wants Omkara to take his local seat. This is to be the culmination of Langda Tyaagi's (Saif Ali Khan) ambitions, to be the successor to Omkara. He is shocked and driven into a rage when Omkara appoints Kesu to be the next successor. In this rage, he starts planning revenge, and does so without any hesitation or thought, and this is the guts of the movie. The cunning that he deploys to break both Omkara and Kesu, and in the process use a number of other people such as his own wife, Omkara's would-be-bride Dolly and the jilted lover of Dolly. His plans play on the most base of human emotions, trust, and eventually he manages to convince Omkara about an affair between his Dolly and his trusted lieutant Kesu, leading to a final conflict where Omkara destroys his own world and then takes his own life in regret over what he has done. The screenplay, direction and music is all by Vishal Bhardwaj, lyrics are by Gulzar. The song 'Beedi jalai' became a national hit

Chak De Fatte is an exceptional song from the stable of Dhruv Dhalla, with lyrics by Jaideep Sahni (who is also the scriptwriter, the dialogues writer; he is also credited with the story). The song (sung by Kailash Kher) is a very peppy song, and have been remixed a lot. It is still incredibly popular; and of course, the movie is also very popular. The movie, Khosla Ka Ghosla, cannot be called an unknown movie, since it has stars of the like of Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Ranvir Shourey, Tara Sharma, and others. What the movie did achieve was that of a dream run, with the classic tale of a low budget movie that went to get some spectacular word of mouth publicity, and then become a hit; as well as a cult status. People who have seen the movie claim that it so much resembles reality, and especially from Delhi believe that it portrays life and people in the city exactly as they are (not very flattering for people in Delhi, but that is how things are). You see the character, and they seem so life-like, and you are sure to believe that this is how the land mafia will behave. You find yourself urging on the fight-back by the normal middle class people, while identifying with the timidity of the father. Khosla ka ghosla literally means the nest of Khosla (the name of the main character); nest also implies a residence. The middle class guy (Anupam Kher) is pitched against the wicked mafia / builder Boman Irani. Soon Anupam Kher has lost. And this is when family and friends (with son Pravon Dabas and girlfriend Tara Sharma) and the comic duo of Ranvir Shourey and Vinay Pathal combine with a sophisticated-acting Navin Nischol to try and sell the builder Boman Irani some fake land. The twists and turns of whether they are able to sell some government land to Boman Irani makes for some hilarious watching, especially when Boman Irani wants to see the land. This is a must watch movie.
What can one say about this movie. The previous movie with the combination of Farah Khan doing the direction and Shahrukh Khan doing the production and the lead acting was 'Main Hoon Na'. While a very slick masala movie, nobody could really claim that it was an exceptional movie. And the same message was reinforced for this movie as well, with all the hype before the movie proudly claiming the fact that this will be another entertainer, a pure masala movie (no pretensions at being a social movie or an art movie of any kind).
The movie has some good music, and the first half is pretty interesting. The whole scene is of the 70's type of setting, and I actually quite enjoyed most of this part. The impersonation of the South Indian heroes, the caricature of Manoj Kumar (in spite of the controversy, the touch was amusing). The flow of the movie was very natural, with a young sidey actor, his resourceful friend, and an over-acting mother (although it was a sheer waste of an actress of Kiron Kher's calibre). Shahrukh's acting was enjoyable, whether it be the shy person in front of a superstar whom he adores, or when his dream crashes and he realizes that she is in love with someone else. It is when Shahrukh gets overly emotional (such as when he is trying to rescue Deepika from a fire) that you realize that you have seen this type of acting before (in almost every movie where there is violence driven from an emotional angle such as Baazigar, and other such movies). Deepika does not have any tough scenes except for the confrontation with her lover, and some of these scenes are shot from a distance and do not allow too much of evaluation of acting talent. She does look good in many of the scenes though. Was a bit disappointed with Arjun Ramphal, since for a person who cold-bloodedly kills his lover (and who is bearing his child), you don't get to feel the menace. It is only when he tells his men that she should not escape the flame that you get to feel the menace (but that is more due to the script rather than acting). The second half is much more disappointing. Shahrukh Khan does the reincarnation act, and you immediately know that this Karz. But soon, I started feeling shades of Madhumati also involved, and that turned out to be true. The second half seemed much more disjointed, such as Shahrukh Khan's conversion from being somebody who does not believe in the previous birth thing to a person who goes to meet his mother from the previous birth was very sudden (I was thinking that I missed some part of the movie). Originality in the second half seems missing, and one could easily figure out large sections of the movie based on the earlier movies. The song (to resemble the finale 'Ek Haseena Thi' from Karz does not compare in any way. The death of the villain is not very convincing, although Deepika's double role in this part is adequate. Farah Khan managed to pull in a large number of special appearances in the movie:
* Bipasha Basu.................. as herself * Rishi Kapoor.................. as himself * Subhash Ghai.................. as himself * Karan Johar................... as himself * Amitabh Bachchan.............. as himself * Abhishek Bachchan............. as himself * Rakesh Roshan................. as himself * Hrithik Roshan................ as himself * Akshay Kumar.................. as himself * Shabana Azmi.................. as herself * Feroz Khan.................... as himself * Koena Mitra................... as herself * Amisha Patel.................. as Om Kapoor's heroine in Filmfare Awards * Dia Mirza..................... as Om Kapoor's heroine in Filmfare Awards * Bappi Lahiri.................. as himself * Farah Khan.................... as herself * Gauri Khan.................... as herself * Chunkey Pandey................ as himself

Murder was not the debut movie for either Mallika Sherawat or Emraan Hashmi (debut movies being Khwaish for Mallika and Footpath for Imraan Hashmi), but this was the movie that gave a big boost to their film career, and also set their reputations (something that got repeated in future films). So Mallika got the reputation of being ready to do sexy roles involving hot scenes, exposure, kissing, and similar such characteristics, and Emraan got the reputation of a serial kisser. The movie was directed by Anurag Basu under the tutelage of Mahesh Bhatt, and there are signs of the Bhatt effect showing through. The movie is based on the English movie 'Unfaithful'. It does have some great songs and hummable music, and overall is a watch at least once. However if you are watching with family and are hesitant about bold scenes, then don't watch. The movie has bold scenes where required, and does not hesitate to shock in the story about a neglected wife having an affair with a former lover. The movie has music by Anu Malik, and lyrics are by Sayeed Quadri and Rahat Indori.
The movie is different from the usual murder story, and also different from the run of the mill 'B' class movie that seek to titillate the viewer with hot and racy sex scenes. The movie is from a top banner, and presents the story of what happens in a family when a partner starts to feel neglected, and the difference being that the movie does not hesitate in showing some bold sex scenes. Hence, a number of scenes of adultery and betrayal of the marital bond of trust; but with a difference, the innate love between the husband and wife is enough to finally get them out of the mess that they land up in. The movie is mostly in flashback, with the police investigating a murder of a young disc jockey Sunny (Emraan Hashmi) in Malaysia, and are interrogating people associated with him. They discover the truth about the husband and wife couple of Ashmit Sen (Sudir) and Mallika Sherawat (Simran). Simran used to love Emraan in college, but lost touch with him when he was jailed for assaulting a person over Simran. Sudhir was married to Simran's sister, but when her sister died leaving behind a baby, Simran took on the responsibility and married Sudhir, but there never seemed to be something like true love between them. At a time when Simran is feeling very neglected and Sudhir does not seem to care, Simran meets Sunny and soon they are having a rollicking affair involving scenes of a fair amount of intimacy. Simran feels very guilty, but keeps on with the affair. Sudir soon starts to suspect something and hires a detective who finds the truth very soon. Sudhir has a confrontation with Sunny, and soon Sunny is dead. At that stage, both husband and wife start to cover for each other, and the rest of the movie is about who is the culprit.

A typical urban gangster movie of the 70's and 80's (thus excluding the rural dacoit movie such as Sholay) was all about the larger than life character, fighting against the police, and maybe reforming or dying. It was the odd movie such as Deewar which tried to look into the mind of a gangster, but these were still movies about larger than life characters. It was films like Vaastav & Satya that tried to break into the basic characters mind, and show the goings on around them, along with the overall despair that involved such criminals (and make no mistake, no matter the circumstances, the new age of movies display them as criminals even when showing their sequence of steps to becoming a gangster).
A refreshing new movie in this regard is the movie called Gangster (directed by Anurag Basu for Mahesh Bhatt). The movie pulls no punches, showing the old game of gangster vs. police through the eyes of a young woman forced to make her choices. The movie is truly a different movie, able to de-glamorize the whole gangster-moll and romance bit. The movie does have some unrealistic parts as well, such as the alcohol-sunken portrayal of a bar dancer by Kangana Ranaut in a great debut role. With some excellent roles given to both Shiney Ahuja and Emraan Hashmi, this movie is also a good example of a movie doing well on the basis of story and performances (and some good music). Story is all in flashback, showing 2 people firing guns at each other; and then the story starts to unfold. Kanagana essays the role of Simran, a dancer turned into an alcoholic. She has dreams of a normal family, but those are not to be. One day she gives shelter to a dreaded gangster Daya (Shiney Ahuja) when he is being chased by the cops. Why she does so is not clear ! However, Daya starts visiting her club and soon saves her from a drunk customer, and then asks her to come home. And so naturally, they start having an affair; but always on the move (far removed from the normal life that she wanted) since he is on the run from the police. He even ignores the advice from his patron (Gulshan Grover in a short role) to leave her. They decide to escape from India so as to escape the police and the pressure; and he goes off to Mauritius and she is sent off to South Korea. And it is here that she starts sinking into the pressured and dreary life of an alcoholic, which is when Emraan Hashmi meets her (he is a singer, and starts showing interest in her). She succumbs to her loneliness and has a one-night stand with him. In the meantime Shiney reaches there and beats up Emraan almost to death. However, this is the last we see of the proud don, since he now tries to lead a normal life for her, doing menial work in order to earn money. But, we all know what happens from a one-night stand - Kangana is now pregnant with Emraan's child. Emraan encourages her to get Shiney to surrender to the police, and, in a fateful decision that she will always regret, she picks Emraan's side. And then after Shiney is gone, she learns that Emraan was a policeman, and the finale is about her trying to take vengeance. The movie is a worth-watch, and with some hummable songs. Movie has music by Pritam Chakraborty; lyrics are by Sayeed Qadri, Mayur Puri, Nilesh Mishra

Rocky was Sanjay Dutt's debut movie, a vehicle to launch the gangling young hunk, the son of 2 very famous star parents - Nargis Dutt and Sunil Dutt. The movie was directed by his father, Sunil Dutt and was released in 1981. The movie was a hit, but was a bit of a tragedy since Nargis Dutt died a few weeks before the release, and the tragedy of her death and long fight against cancer pushed Sanjay Dutt into a full-blown usage of drugs, out of which he could only emerge after his father sent him to a clinic. The movie starred Sanjay Dutt, Reena Roy, Tina Munim, Ranjeet, Amjad Khan (in a positive role), Rakhee and Shakti Kapoor. The movie was a typical masala movie of a young man finding out that those he considered to be his parents were not actually his parents, instead he finds out that his father had been murdered and that his mother had been forced to stay away from him. The movie is about his quest to find out the truth, and to take revenge. There were some excellent songs in the movie, and music was by R.D.Burman. Lyrics were by Anand Bakshi.

Ek Haseena Thi
Ek hasina thi Ek deewana tha Kya umar, kya samaa, kya zamana tha
Ek hasina thi Hasina thi Ek deewana tha Deewana tha Kya umar, kya samaa, kya zamana tha
Ek din woh mile Roz milne lage Ek din woh mile Roz milne lage Phir mohabbat huyi Bas qayamat huyi
Kho gaye tum kahan Sunke yeh dastaan Log hairaan hain Kyunki anjaan hain
Ishq ki woh gali Baat jiski chali Us gali mein Mera aana, jaana tha
Ek hasina thi Ek deewana tha Kya umar thi, kya samaa tha, kya zamana tha Ek hasina thi Ek deewana tha
Oos hasin ne kaha Oos hasin ne kaha Suno jaanewafa Yeh falak, yeh zameen Tere bin kuch nahin Tujhpe marti hoon main Pyaar karti hoon main
Baat kuch aur thi Woh nazar-chor thi Uske dil mein chupi Chaah daulat ki thi Pyaar ka woh fakat Ek bahana tha
Ek hasina thi Ek deewana tha Kya umar thi, kya samaa tha, kya zamana tha Ek hasina thi Ek deewana tha
Bewafa yaar ne Apne mehboob se Aisa dhoka kiya (aisa dhoka kiya) (dhoka dhoka) (aisa dhoka kiya) (dhoka dhoka) Aisa dhoka kiya Zaher usko diya (dhoka dhoka dhoka) (dhoka dhoka dhoka) Zaher usko diya
Mar gaya woh jawan Mar gaya woh jawan Ab suno dastaan Janm leke kahin Phir woh pahucha wahin Shakl anjaan thi Katl hairaan thi Saamna jab hua Saamna jab hua Phir wahi sab hua Uspe yeh karz tha Uska yeh farz tha Farz ko karz apna chukana tha
This is the movie that people love to hate. There is a lot of hard violence in the movie (including using a drill on a person), it does not have any kind of social message whatsoever, and in addition, is not a original movie. On the contrary, I liked the movie. It is one of the movies that I see that is moving Bollywood away from the romance and around-tree-song dramas and more towards a fast-paced Hollywood kind of slick movie. The movie is based on acclaimed director Park Chan-Wook's Korean classic OLDBOY [released in 2003], and there are very few scenes in the movie that seem out of control or excessive. And did I mention that I really really liked the songs and the music. The song by 'Strings' was very very good, and the singing by Shibani Kashyap was also excellent. The movie is directed by Sanjay Gupta (who had made similar fast-paced thrillers 'Kaante' and 'Musafir'), and stars Sanjay Dutt, John Abraham, Mahesh Majrekar, Lara Dutta and Celina Jaitely (in a small role). Music is by a whole set of people, Nikhil Chinnappa, Dj Nawed, Kinky Ronald, Vishal Dadlani, Shekhar Ravjiani.
The casting is great, with the movie starting and ending with Sanjay Dutt, with John Abraham coming late in the movie, oozing menace (one felt that he could have done a bit more practise on the throwing menace part). The movie is all about the harm caused to the emotions of a child, and how that develops into a full-throated revenge effort that drives a person to commit his life to that revenge. However, owing to the movie being released in an Indian setting, the ending is a bit melodramatic, and it is not very clear and logical as to what suddenly changed John Abraham. So there is this software engineer who is married, moving to Thailand with his wife, Celina. She is about to have a kid, and things are looking good. And one day suddenly, in their water-front house, she does not see him after he heads towards the waterline (and actually she never sees him again). He is shown locked up in a cell, with just a TV for company, and with no idea as to what happened. He does not get explanations, although he gets to see what is happening in the world, and gets to eat momos all the time. Days and weeks and months pass by, and he has no answers; he gets shaved and a hair cut after being made unconscious over a regular interval; he also starts learning martial arts from watching the TV. And in a shocking scene, he sees his wife next to him one day and she dies, and we learn that she actually died and he is suspected of the murder and is hunted. Time passes, and one day, 14 years later, he is released as suddenly as he is captured. He starts to find out what happened to him, and he runs into Jenny (Lara Dutta) who is taking him around the city. She does not know what she is getting into. Sanjay Dutt has a phone and some money from his captors, and then John Abraham, over the phone, reveals that the reason why this entire capture happened to him was because of a malicious prank that Sanjay Dutt and Mahesh played on John's sister, and she was unable to bear the humiliation and committed suicide. He also gets to know that Sanjay had a daughter who is under the control of John. There are some terrific scenes of violence when he goes back to the place where he was kept locked up. The rest of the movie is about the cat-and-mouse game between John and Sanjay, and how it ultimately moves towards the final confrontation.
Kalyug was a movie released in 2005 by the Bhatt family, being produced by Mahesh Bhatt & Mukesh Bhatt, and directed by Mohit Suri. The movie was a departure from the traditional movies about romance and the same, instead taking a hard look at the world of the porn industry. This is a subject that is hardly ever tackled in the Indian film industry, except for the occasional movie about a prostitute. It was a well-acclaimed movie and earned some good money as well. Even though the world of the porn industry is a complicated and hidden industry, the movie took a pretty close look, and from all accounts was able to cover the happenings in the industry to some extent. The movie has some great music by Anu Malik, and I really liked all 4 of the songs that are listed below. The songs are very hummable. Jiya Dhadak sung by Ustad Rahet Ali Khan is a great song. The song Juda Hoke Bhi captures the angst of a man who has suffered terrible blow. So what's the movie all about ? The movie is about this Kashmiri Pandit refugee in Bombay, Kunal Khemu. He meets this beautiful and innocent girl (sent for some help by his family) Smilie Suri (looking very beautiful) and they fall for each other, and eventually get married. And that is when their lives take a turn for the worse. Their wedding night is secretly photographed, and made into a sex movie; and the police arrest them for being involved in the business of making blue movies. Smilie is unable to take the humiliation and jumps off the building, and eventually Kunal is let off bail. He has one mission in life, to get the people responsible. He heads off to Zurich to hunt for Annie (Deepal Shaw), and once he finds her, he finds that she is as much a victim as anybody else. The people responsible are others, in this case, it is Amrita Singh in her comeback role. She is a responsible business owner, and also owns the porn ring on the side. Assisting Kunal is Emraan Hashmi in a smaller role (playing the flashy owner of a sex shop), but who helps him out a great deal. The rest of the movie is about how Kunal manages to find out the truth, and break the ring.

In the 1950's, the pairing of Dilip Kumar and Vyjanthimala starred in a number of extremely successful movies, many of them classics. Some of them were: Bimal Roy's Devdas, B.R.Chopra's Naya Daur, Nitin Bose's Ganga Jamuna, and Bimal Roy's Madhumati. Madhumati was released in 1958, and won a number of awards for that year: Filmfare Awards for Best Movie, Best Director (Bimal Roy), Best Actress (Vyjayanthimala), Best Music Director (Salil Choudhury), Best Supporting Actor (Johnny Walker), Best Art Direction, Best Female Playback (Lata Mangeshkar singing "aa ja re pardesiya"), Best Editing (Hrishikesh Mukherjee), and Best Dialogue (Rajinder Singh Bedi). With these number of awards, you can imagine what an impact the movie had. And the surprising part about all this was that the movie was probably the most commercial movie that Bimal Roy had ever made. It was without doubt one of the most commerically successful movies that Bimal Roy had made, but Bimal Roy was more famous for making his social upliftment movie, with the most famous being Bandini, Sujata, Devdas, Do Bigha Zameen. Just a look at some of these movies can show you that these were some of the movies that made the 1950's the era of socially hard-hitting movies; where some of the romance of India's independence had gone away to be replaced by a much harder look at the state of India's society. The movie had all the elements of a movie that was made for commercial success, it had a villain that you could hate from the depths of your heart Ugranaryan (Pran), a comic star (Johnny Walker), a dashing young hero who pines away for his departed love (Dilip Kumar), some incredible songs, a story dealing with reincarnation, with revenge and a person looking exactly like a twin (if you put all these elements into a modern movie, you can make a movie exactly like the movies you make today). The difference, and what makes this movie an incredible movie, is the direction of Bimal Roy. The movie has an incredible look and feel, and it helps that the lead cast of Dilip Kumar, Vyjanthimala and Pran gave some very good performances. Bimal Roy gives this film a spooky look with some effective use of fogs, mist and a storyline that dances between the real world and the supernatural. Imagine a horror movie where 2 friends are stuck in the middle of nowhere in a storm after their car breaks down. They approach an old haveli (mansion) and decide to spend the night over there, and the door opens on its own; but wait, this is where the horror story ends. Inside, Dilip Kumar suddenly starts remembering what has happened in his previous birth, and it is connected to this place. A voice starts sounding all around him, “Aaja re pardesi, Main to kab se khadi is paar”. And then he starts recounting the story of his previous life. And so the story goes, .. Dilip Kumar starts working as the manager of a timber firm, and his boss is Pran. The two don't get along well, since Dilip Kumar is not as respectful of what Pran wants. In the same area lives Vyjanthimala, innocent in the true sense. She is totally care-free, one with nature, close to birds, and also incredibly beautiful. They fall in love, although Madhumati (Vyjanthimala) is also desired by Pran, and since Pran does not like Anand (Dilip Kumar), he has an added interest in getting her to himself. In the meantime, Anand has met her father and assured him that he will marry Madhumati. And then the pivotal theme, where Anand and Madhumati's father have to go out of the village, and then Pran traps Madhumati in the haveli. She is trying to run, but cannot get out, and then runs into a corridor, and ... then the scene ends. When Anand comes back, he confronts Pran, but does not get anything other than a beating. When wandering as a tragic lost lover, he comes across Madhavi, an exact double of Madhumati. She is a friendly sort, and when he lays out his story, she agrees to help him in getting revenge and getting Pran arrested. So, they lay out a plan where Madhavi will approach Pran in the form of Madhumati, with the feeling that this will scare Pran into admitting his mis-deeds and get punishment. Plan goes spectacularly well, and Madhavi scares Pran into admitting his deeds (and it is also revealed that Madhumati had committed suicide to save her honor). And then the twist, at this point Madhavi comes and says that she got late, so who was the Madhavi who made Pran confess ? The music of this film was great, so am attaching the songs below:
