5 years after Sooraj Barjatya took the name of Rajshri back to its heights, he came out with another movie that was one of the biggest hits that Bollywood has ever seen. The movie took most of the successful cast from 'Maine Pyaar Kiya', subtracted Bhagyashree, and added the box-office appeal of Madhuri Dixit, took the story of a Bhojpuri movie starring Sachin 'Nadiya Ke Paar' and made that into a movie that was a full family entertainer. It was about as far from a thriller as you can have, with nary a villain in the entire movie.
The movie was styled to appeal to the family goer, with many songs (14 songs), with all the pomp and show involved in family functions and marriages. You have devotion to parents, brotherly devotion, and a love story running through the movie that is ready for the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of family. In fact, in Britain, cynical commentators took the English movie name 'Four Weddings and Funeral' starring Hugh Grant, and applied a derivative of that name, 'Fourteen Songs and 2 Weddings' to the Hindi movie. That seems to fit the movie pretty well.
The movie is about a joint family, with Alok Nath being the head of the family, his wife having died earlier. He has 2 sons, Mohnish Behl being the elder and more serious (and involved in the family business) and Salman Khan being the younger and more mischievous and carefree (but still committed to the family). Trying to arrange for Mohnish Behl's marriage, Alok Nath runs into an old friend Anupam Kher and his wife Reema Lagoo who have 2 daughters Renuka Shahne and Madhuri Dixit.
Mohnish Behl and Renuka Shahne both get attracted towards each other, and a grand wedding is planned. During this process, Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit also feel attracted towards each other, and slowly fall for each other. There are other family friends who are part of the whole household, such as Bindu, Ajit Vachani, Satish Shah, the late Laxmikant Berde who all play smaller roles in the movie.
As the younger couple move towards each other, there is a big news in the offing; Renuka Shahne is pregnant and delivers a bright bonny son. They tell her the news, but unfortunately she has a bad fall and dies. Amidst and gloom and tragedy, there are plans to get Madhuri Dixit to marry Mohnish so as that the baby can get proper care. Salman Khan accepts this sacrifice as part of the family need, but seems like fate has something else to say.
Music of the movie was great, with music by Ram Laxman.
Songs:
Didi Tera Dewar Diwana
Samdhi Samdhan
Hum Apke Hain Koun
Chocolate lime juice
Muzse juda hokar
Pehla pehla pyaar hai
Mausam Ka Jaadu Hai Mitwa
Mujse judaa hokar Part 2
Maye Ni Maye
Lyrics for the movie:
Didi Tera Dewar Diwana
Didi Tera Devar Deewana,
Hai Ram, Kudiyon Ko Daale Daana,
Dhandha Hai Yeh Uska Puraana,
Hai Ram, Kudiyon Ko Daale Daana.
Main Boli Ke Laana Tu Imli Ka Daana,
Magar Woh Chuaare Le Aaya Deewana,
Main Boli Ke Machle Hai Dil Mera Haay,
Woh Kharbuja Laaya Jo Neembu Mangaaya,
Pagla Hai Koi Usko Bataana,
Hai Ram, Kudiyon Ko Daale Daana.
Main Boli Ke Laana Tu Mitti Pahaadi,
Magar Woh Bataashe Le Aaya Anaadi,
Main Boli Thi La Do Mujhe Tu Khataayi,
Woh Baazar Se Le Ke Aaya Mithaai,
Mushkil Hai Yuh Mujhko Phasaana,
Hai Ram, Kudiyon Ko Daale Daana.
Bhabhi Teri Behna Ko Maana,
Hai Ram, Kudiyon Ka Hai Zamaana,
Rabba Mere Mujhko Bachaana,
Hai Ram, Kudiyon Ka Hai Zamaana.
Hukum Aapka Tha Jo Maine Na Maana,
Khatavaar Hoon Main Na Aaya Nibhaana,
Sazaa Jo Bhi Doge Woh Manzoor Hogi,
Aji Meri Mushkil Tabhi Door Hogi,
Bandaa Hai Yeh Khudse Begaana,
Hai Ram, Kudiyon Ka Hai Zamaana.
Hum Aapke Hain Kaun
Hum Aapke Hain Koun...
Hum Aapke Hain Koun...
Bechain Hai, Meri Nazar: Hai Pyar Ka, Kaisa Asar
Na Chup Raho: Itna Kaho
Hum Aapke...Aapke Hain Koun..!
Khud Ko Sanam: Roka Bada
Aakhir Mujhe: Kehna Pada
Khwabon Mein Tum: Aate Ho Kyon
Hum Aapke...Aapke Hain Koun..!
Bechain Hai - Meri Nazar: Hai Pyar Ka - Kaisa Asar
Hain Hosh Gum: Poocho Na Tum
Hum Aapke...Aapke Hain Koun..!
Kaise Kahun: Dil Ki Lagi
Chehra Mera: Padh Lo Kabhi
Yeh Sharam Ki: Surkhi Kahe
Hum Aapke...Aapke Hain Koun..!
Hum Aapke...Aapke Hain Koun..!
Mausam Ka Jaadu
Thandi Thandi Purvaiya Mein
Udti Hai Chunariya, Hey
Dhadke Mora Jiya Rama
Bali Hai Umariya
Dil Pe, Nahin Kaabu,
Kaisa, Yeh Jaadu
Yeh Mausam Ka Jaadu Hai Mitwa
Na Ab Dil Pe Kaabu Hai Mitwa
Naina Jisme Kho Gaye
Deewane Se Ho Gaye
Nazara Woh Harsu Hai Mitwa
Yeh Mausam Ka Jaadu Hai Mitwa...
Shehri Babu Ke Sang
Mem Gori Gori, Hey
Aise Lage Jaise
Chanda Ki Chakori
Phoolon Kaliyon Ki Bahaaren
Chanchal Yeh Hawaon Ki Pukaaren
Humko Yeh Ishaaron Mein Kahen Hum
Thamke Yahan Ghadiyan Guzaaren
Pehle Kabhi To Na Humse
Batiyate The Aise Phulwa
Yeh Mausam Ka Jaadu Hai Mitwa...
Sachchi Sachchi Bolna
Bhed Na Chupaana, Hey
Kaun Dagar Se Aaye
Kaun Disha Hai Jaana
Inko Hum Le Ke Chale Hain
Apne Sang Apni Nagariya
Hai Re Sang Anjaane Ka
Us Par Anjaan Dagariya
Phir Kaise Tum Door Itne
Sang Aa Gayee Mere Goriya
Yeh Mausam Ka Jaadu Hai Mitwa
Mujhse Juda Hokar
Mujhse Juda Hokar Tumhe Door Jaana Hai
Palbhar Ki Judaai Phir Laut Aana Hai
Saathiya - Sang Rahega Tera Pyar
Saathiya - Rang Layega Intezaar..!
Tumse Juda Hokar Mujhe Door Jaana Hai
Palbhar Ki Judaai Phir Laut Aana Hai
Saathiya - Sang Rahega Tera Pyar
Saathiya - Rang Layega Intezaar..!
Main Hoon Teri Sajni Saajan Hai Tu Mera
Tu Baandh Ke Aaya Mere Pyar Ka Sehra
Chehre Se Ab Tere Hatti Nahin Ankhiyan
Tera Naam Le - Lekar Chhede Mujhe Sakhiyan
Sakhiyon Se Ab Mujhko Peechha Chhudana Hai
Palbhar Ki Judaai Phir Laut Aana Hai
Saathiya - Sang Rahega Tera Pyar
Saathiya - Rang Layega Intezaar..!
Mere Tasavvur Mein Tum Roz Aati Ho
Chupke Se Tum Aakar Mera Ghar Sajati Ho
Sajni Bada Pyara Yeh Roop Hai Tera
Gajre Ki Khushboo Se Mehka Hai Ghar Mera
Aankhon Se Ab Teri Kajal Churana Hai
Palbhar Ki Judaai Phir Laut Aana Hai
Saathiya - Sang Rahega Tera Pyar
Saathiya - Rang Layega Intezaar..!
Pehla Pehla Pyaar Hain
Pehla Pehla Pyar Hai
Pehli Pehli Baar Hai
Jaan Ke Bhi Anjaana
Kaisa Mera Yaar Hai...
Uski Nazar
Palkon Ki Chilman Se Mujhe Dekhti Uski Nazar Uski Haya
Apni Hi Chahat Ka Raaz Kholti Uski Haya
Chhup Ke Kare Jo Wafa, Aisa Mera Yaar Hai
Pehla Pehla Pyar Hai...
Wo Hai Nisha
Wo Hi Meri Zindagi Ki Bhor Hai Wo Hai Nisha Use Hai Pata
Uske Hi Hathon Mein Meri Dor Hai Use Hai Pata
Saare Jahan Se Juda, Aisa Mera Pyar Hai
Pehla Pehla Pyar Hai...
Chocolate Lime Juice
Chocolate - Lime Juice - Ice Cream - Toffeeyan
Pehle Jaise Ab Mere Shauk Hain Kahan
Gudiya - Khilone Meri Saheliyan
Ab Mujhe Lagti Hain Sari Paheliyan
Yeh Kaun - Sa Mod Hai Umra Ka..!
Yeh Kaisa Deewanapan Hai Kya Janu - Main Kya Janu
Mushkil Ho Gaya Khud Ko Kaise
Pehchanu Main Pehchanu
Din Katta Hai Kate Na Ratiyan
Kisse Kahun Main Yeh Sari Batiyan
Gudiya - Khilone Meri Saheliyan
Ab Mujhe Lagti Hain Sari Paheliyan
Yeh Kaun - Sa Mod Hai Umra Ka..!
Man Mein Tarange Uthne Lagi Hain Yeh Kaisi, Yeh Kaisi
Ab Jaisi Hoon Pehle Nahin Thi Main - Aisi, Main Aisi
Khilne Lagi Hain Raahon Mein Kaliyan
Ankhiyan Dhoondhe Sapnon Ki Galiyan
Gudiya - Khilone Meri Saheliyan
Ab Mujhe Lagti Hain Sari Paheliyan
Yeh Kaun - Sa Mod Hai Umra Ka..!
Maye Ni Maye
Maye Ni Maye Munder Pe Teri
Bol Raha Hai Kaaga
Jogan Ho Gai Teri Dulaari
Man Jogi Sung Laaga..!
Chan Mahiya...Chan Mahiya
Mere Dhol Sipahiya...
Chand Ki Tarah Chamak Rahi Thi
Us Jogi Ki Kaaya...
Mere Dware Aakar Usne
Pyar Ka Alakh Jagaaya...
Apne Tun Pe Bhasm Rama Ke
Sari Rain Wo Jaaga...
Jogan Ho Gai Teri Dulaari
Man Jogi Sung Laaga..!
Sun Hiriye...Nach Hiriye
Nach Ke Rung Jama...
Sun Hiriye...Nach Hiriye
Nach Ke Dhoom Macha...
Mannat Maangi Thi Tu Ne Ek Roz
Main Jaun Bihai...
Us Jogi Ke Sung Meri Tu
Kar De Ab Kudmai...
In Haatho Mein Laga De Mehndi
Baandh Shagun Ka Dhaaga...
Jogan Ho Gai Teri Dulaari
Man Jogi Sung Laaga..!

Song: Teri Diwanee by Kailash Kher
Kailash Kher first made his name with the wonderful Allah Ke Bande from the movie, Waiha Bhi Hota Hain 2. That first song, in such a delightful Sufi manner, captured the attention of a huge number of people and made him a star. And now, with this new composition, he is liable to become more famous. And it seems worth it, just listen to this great work, and you will also become a fan.
I have to admit, I was not so much in awe of 'Teri Diwanee' when it first came out, but it sort of grew on me, and by now, I really love this song. The video, of different situations, complements the song, but you really don't need the video to enjoy this song.
Lyrics:
preet ki lath mohe aaisi laagi
ho gayi main matwaali
bal bal jaaun apane piya ko
ke main jaaun vaari vaari
mohe sudh budh naa rahe tan mann ki
yeh toh jaane duniya saari
bebas aur laachar phiru main
haari main dil haari
tere naam se jee loon
tere naam se marr jaaun
tere naam se jee loon
tere naam se marr jaaun
teri jaan ke sadke mein kuchh aaisa kar jaaun
tune kya kar dala marr gayi main mitt gayi main
ho ri ha ha ri ho gayi main
teri deewani deewani
teri deewani deewani
tune kya kar dala marr gayi main mitt gayi main
ho ri ha ha ri ho gayi main
teri deewani deewani
teri deewani deewani
ishq junoon jab hadh se badh jaaye - 2
hanste hanste aashiq suli chadh jaaye
ishq ka jaadu sar chadhkar bole
khoob laga lo pehre raste rab khole
yahi ishq ki marzi hain
yahi rab ki marzi hain
yahi ishq ki marzi hain
yahi rab ki marzi hain
tere bin jeena kaisa
???
tune kya kar dala marr gayi main mitt gayi main
ho ri ha ha ri ho gayi main
teri deewani deewani
teri deewani deewani
ke main rang rangili deewani - 2
ke main albeli main mastani
gaaun bajaaun sabko rijhaaun
he ??? se begaani
ke main deewani main deewani
tere naam se jee loon tere naam se marr jaaun
tere jaan ke sadle mein kuchh aaisa kar jaaun
tune kya kar dala marr gayi main mitt gayi main
ho ri ha ha ri ho gayi main
teri deewani deewani
teri deewani deewani
teri deewani deewani
teri deewani deewani...

Great songs from Souten (1983)
Souten was a movie release in 1983, and starred the former super-star, Rajesh Khanna, along with Tina Munim, and Padmini Kolhapure. In addition, it starred a few others such as Satyen Kappu, Pran, Vijay Arora, Prem Chopra, Dr. Sreeram Lagoo, Roopesh Kumar, and Shashikala. The movie plays on the breakdown of the relationship between a husband (Rajesh Khanna) and wife (Tina Munim) due to the pushing of the girl's mother and uncle. She starts to believe that her husband is not worth her, and her husband starts to feel that the wife is too outward going, and discourteous to him and they begin to drift away from each other. And all this after they had a love marriage, and loved each other tremendously in the beginning.
Things start to get even worse when Rajesh Khanna is suspected to be having an affair with Padmini (who also has a child). They don't really have an affair going, but this is enough to cause suspicion. This suspicion eventually causes Padmini to kill herself, which is when Tina Munim realizes her mistake. The movie was made by Saawan Kumar Tak who used to make movies on the interplay of relations in a marriage, and had some great music by Usha Khanna. Some of the songs are very popular, although with the passage of time, they are no longer heard so much. But when they come on the radio sometime, they feel good on the ear, and bring back the memory of the golden voice of Kishore Kumar. All lyrics are by Saawan Kumar.
Zindagi Pyar Ka Geet Hai - Kishore Kumar

Saayad Meri Saadi Ka Khayal - Lata Mangeshkar & Kishore Kumar
Lyrics:
Shaayad Meri Shaadi
la : shaayad meri shaadi ka khayaal dil mein aaya hai
isiliye mummy ne meri tumhen chaay pe bulaaya hai

isiliye mummy ne teri mujhe chaay pe bulaaya hai

( theek tum chaar baje ghar chale aana
mera haath maang lena zara na sharamaana ) -2

khili hui dhoop mein taare dekh rahi ho
are nahi baaba chaay nahi peena

la : inhiin adaaon par to haay apana dil aaya hai
isiliye mummy ne meri ...
ki : na na na na
panchhi akela dekh ...
la : ( dillagi na karo chhedo na hamako sanam
haan kaho ghar chalo tumako meri qasam ) -2
ki : jaan-e-man maana ham tumape marate hain
pyaar to theek hai shaadi se darate hain
shaadi se pahale to sab achchha lagata hai
saari umr ko phir rona padata hai
a : inhiin adaaon par to haay apana dil aaya hai
isiliye mummy ne meri ...
ki : o panchhi akela dekh ...
la : tumhen meri qasam aaoge na
ki : nahi bilkul nahi
haan teri qasam aaoonga
Zindagi Pyaar Ka Geet
Zindagi pyar ka geet hai
Ise har dil ko gana parenga
Zindagi pyar ka geet hai
Ise har dil ko gana parenga
Zindagi gham ka sagar bhi hai
Hanske uspaar jana parenga
Zindagi ek ahsaas hai
Toote dil ki koi aas hai (2)
Zindagi ek banwas hai
Kat kar sabko jana parega
Zindagi pyar ka geet hai
Ise har dil ko gana parenga
Zindagi bewafa hai to kya
Apne ruthe hai hamse to kya (2)
Haath me haath na ho to kya
Saath phir bhi nibhana parenga
Zindagi pyar ka geet hai
Ise har dil ko gana parenga
Zindagi ek muskan hai
Dard ki koi pehchaan hai (2)
Zindagi ek mehmaan hai
Chhor sansar jana parenga
Zindagi pyar ka geet hai
Ise har dil ko gana parenga
Zindagi gham ka sagar bhi hai
Hanske uspaar jana parenga
Jab Apne Ho Jaaye Bewaafa
jab apane ho jaaye bewafa toh dil toote - 2

hum gaaye kyu nahi hum naache kyu nahi
jab apane jab apane ho jaaye bewafa toh dil toote
(bholi surat har insaan badalte dekha
humne apane pyaron ka imaan badalte dekha) - 2
dil ki ruswaai hai sanam harjaai hain - 2
jab apane jab apane ho jaaye bewafa toh dil toote
jab apane ho jaaye bewafa toh dil toote
(dil ne jisko pyar kiya hai usi ne dil ko toda
kiske haath ke khaatir dekho kiske haath ko chhoda) - 2
hamein bhi koi gam nahi kisise ham kam nahi - 2
jab apane jab apane ho jaaye bewafa toh dil toote
jab apane ho jaaye bewafa toh dil toote
(apane jab begaane bankar mehfil nayi sajaye
hum bhi unke dil se khele kyu pichhe reh jaaye) - 2
unko hum samjhenge ab toh hum uljhenge - 2
jab apane jab apane ho jaaye bewafa toh dil toote
jab apane ho jaaye bewafa toh dil toote
jab dil toote to roye kyon
hum gaaye kyu nahi hum naache kyu nahi
jab apane jab apane ho jaaye bewafa toh dil toote

Songs from Rocky - Sanjay Dutt's first movie
Rocky was Sanjay Dutt's debut movie, a vehicle to launch the gangling young hunk, the son of 2 very famous star parents - Nargis Dutt and Sunil Dutt. The movie was directed by his father, Sunil Dutt and was released in 1981. The movie was a hit, but was a bit of a tragedy since Nargis Dutt died a few weeks before the release, and the tragedy of her death and long fight against cancer pushed Sanjay Dutt into a full-blown usage of drugs, out of which he could only emerge after his father sent him to a clinic.
The movie starred Sanjay Dutt, Reena Roy, Tina Munim, Ranjeet, Amjad Khan (in a positive role), Rakhee and Shakti Kapoor. The movie was a typical masala movie of a young man finding out that those he considered to be his parents were not actually his parents, instead he finds out that his father had been murdered and that his mother had been forced to stay away from him. The movie is about his quest to find out the truth, and to take revenge. There were some excellent songs in the movie, and music was by R.D.Burman. Lyrics were by Anand Bakshi.

Some songs from Karz
Karz was a movie from Mukta Arta (Subash Ghai) released in 1980 and was a proper masala thriller, made with all the elements of a proper thriller - it had rebirth, deceit, evil, music, revenge, romance, and so on. The movie starred Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim, Simi Garewal and Pran. Music was by Laxmikant Pyarelal and lyrics by Anand Bakshi.
Songs of the movie were very famous, and here are the lyrics and videos for some of the most popular songs.
Main solah baras ka
Dard e dil
Om Shanti Om
Paisa Ye Paisa
Ek Haseena Thi
Lyrics:
Dard-e-Dil (by Mohammed Rafi)
Dard-E-Dil Dard-E-Jigar Dil Mein Jagaya Aapne
Pehle To Maein Shaayar Tha Aashiq Banaya Aapne
Aapki Madhosh Nazrein Kar Rahi Hain Shaayari
Yeh Ghazal Meri Nahin Yeh Ghazal Hai Aapki
Maine To Bas Woh Likha Jo Kuchh Likhaaya Aapne
Dard-E-Dil Dard-E-Jigar Dil Mein Jagaya Aapne...
Kab Kahan Sab Kho Gayi Jitni Bhi Thi Parchhaiyaan
Uth Gayi Yaaron Ki Mehfil Ho Gayi Tanhaiyaan
Kya Hua Shayad Koi Parda Giraaya Aapne
Dard-E-Dil Dard-E-Jigar Dil Mein Jagaya Aapne...
Aur Thodi Der Mein Bas Hum Judaa Ho Jayenge
Aapko Dhoondunga Kaise Raaste Kho Jayenge
Naam Tak Bhi To Nahin Apna Bataaya Aapne
Dard-E-Dil Dard-E-Jigar Dil Mein Jagaya Aapne
Om Shanti Om (Sung by Kishore Kumar)
--MALE--
Hey, tumne kabhi kisi se pyaar kiya?
Kabhi kisi ko dil diya?
Maine bhi diya!
La la la la, la la la la

Ab main khud ban gaya deewana) - 2
Yeh waqt tumpe aa jaaye pyaar mein
To yeh geet gaana

Paisa Ye Paisa (sung by Kishore Kumar)
paisa ye paisa paisa hai kaisa
nahi koi aisa jaisa ye paisa
ke ho museebat na ho museebat
ho museebat na ho museebat saat aath nau das
prem dekha pyaar dekha yaari dekhi yaar dekha -3
dil ke aar-paar dekha ye saara sansaar dekha
oopar-neeche andar-baahar door-paas mausam hai ik jaisa
paisa -2
paisa ye paisa ...
Ek Haseena Thi
Ek hasina thi
Ek deewana tha
Kya umar, kya samaa, kya zamana tha
Ek hasina thi
Hasina thi
Ek deewana tha
Deewana tha
Kya umar, kya samaa, kya zamana tha
Ek din woh mile
Roz milne lage
Ek din woh mile
Roz milne lage
Phir mohabbat huyi
Bas qayamat huyi
Kho gaye tum kahan
Sunke yeh dastaan
Log hairaan hain
Kyunki anjaan hain
Ishq ki woh gali
Baat jiski chali
Us gali mein
Mera aana, jaana tha
Ek hasina thi
Ek deewana tha
Kya umar thi, kya samaa tha, kya zamana tha
Ek hasina thi
Ek deewana tha
Oos hasin ne kaha
Oos hasin ne kaha
Suno jaanewafa
Yeh falak, yeh zameen
Tere bin kuch nahin
Tujhpe marti hoon main
Pyaar karti hoon main
Baat kuch aur thi
Woh nazar-chor thi
Uske dil mein chupi
Chaah daulat ki thi
Pyaar ka woh fakat
Ek bahana tha
Ek hasina thi
Ek deewana tha
Kya umar thi, kya samaa tha, kya zamana tha
Ek hasina thi
Ek deewana tha
Bewafa yaar ne
Apne mehboob se
Aisa dhoka kiya
(aisa dhoka kiya) (dhoka dhoka)
(aisa dhoka kiya) (dhoka dhoka)
Aisa dhoka kiya
Zaher usko diya
(dhoka dhoka dhoka) (dhoka dhoka dhoka)
Zaher usko diya
Mar gaya woh jawan
Mar gaya woh jawan
Ab suno dastaan
Janm leke kahin
Phir woh pahucha wahin
Shakl anjaan thi
Katl hairaan thi
Saamna jab hua
Saamna jab hua
Phir wahi sab hua
Uspe yeh karz tha
Uska yeh farz tha
Farz ko karz apna chukana tha

Song: Teri Galiyon Mein Na Rakhenge Kadam
The song 'Teri Galiyon Mein Na Rakhenge' is a very melodious song from the 1974 movie 'Hawas'. The song was sung by Mohammed Rafi, and it is an example of great singing. The music for this movie was given by Usha Khanna. The lyricist for this song was Saawan Kumar Tak, who also produced and directed the movie. The movie starred Anil Dhawan, Neetu Singh, Bindu, Rekha, Vinod Mehra, Vidya Sinha, Pradeep Kumar and Asit Sen.
The name of the movie means 'lust' in the hardest sense in English. It's about this guy called Anil (controlled by this money wanting evil guy called Natwarlal). Both of them are in the business of trying to make as much money as quickly as possible. He is successful till he gets the mission of trying to get the diamond necklace of Mrs. Singh who is looking to him to satisfy her desires.
Teri Galiyon Mein Na Rakhenge Kadam
Lyrics:
Terii Galiyon MeiN Naa Rakhenge Kadam, Aaj Ke Baad
Tere Milane Ko Na Aae.Nge Sanam, Aaj Ke Baad
Terii Galiyon Mein Naa ...
Tuu Meraa Milanaa ...
Tuu Meraa Milanaa Samajh Lenaa Ek Sapanaa Thaa
Tujhako Aakhir Mil Hii Gayaa Jo Teraa Apanaa Thaa
Ham Ko Duniyaa Mein Samajhanaa Naa Sanam, Aaj Ke Baad
Tere Milane Ko Naa Aaenge Sanam, Aaj Ke Baad
Gir Ke Aaengii ...
Gir Ke Aaengii Ghataae.N Phir Se Saavan Kii
Tum To Baahon Mein Rahogii Apane Saajan Kii
Gale Ham Gam Ko Lagaaenge Sanam, Aaj Ke Baad
Tere Milane Ko Naa Aaenge Sanam, Aaj Ke Baad

Song: Woh Ajnabee (The Train - 2007)
This is a pretty nice song, with a good musical score, and some great lyrics. The movie is 'The Train', directed by a team of 2 - Co-directors Raksha Mistry and Hasnain Hyderabadwala. The movie stars Emraan Hashmi, Sayali Bhagat, Geeta Basra and Aseem Merchant and is essentially about Emraan Hashmi, married to Sayali Bhagat and with a 5 year daughter. He meets this beautiful looking girl, Geeta Basra who is also stuck in another loveless marriage. The tagline for this movie is 'Some lines must never be crossed', and this is a movie about that, about the subject of infidelity.
There was another movie earlier about infidelity, 'Life in a Metro', it was better made and had a better storyline, but was not an attempted thriller as The Train attempts to be. When Emraan and Geeta start having an affair, Sayali starts to suspect things, and then Emraan realizes that another unknown person also knows about it and could start tormenting him. The movie is about his quest to find that person.
The music for this film is by Mithoon, and seems to have done a pretty good job. Singers for this song are Mithoon and Shilpa Rao.
Woh Ajnabee
Zindagi ne Zindagi bhar Gham diye
Lyrics:
woh ajnabee woh woh woh woh ajanabee, woh ajanabee.......
(aisa koi mujhko mil gaya hai saathiya
jise dekhakar main bhulu saari duniya) - 2
(woh woh woh ajanabee, woh ajanabee jo dekhe dur se
dekhu main usako hi, ho usako hi, abb sab kuchh bhul ke) - 2
dhadkan dhadkan ya saanson mein
raatein raatein ya khaabon mein
sab mein sab mein wahi toh hai, ke bata doon main use
shaame shaame ya subaho mein
shaamil shaamil woh har pal mein
har dum har dum woh baaton mein, mere rahi hai kahin woh woh woh...
woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee
woh woh woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee........
(abb usase aisa jud gaya hai silsila
wohi woh nazar aaye mujhko har jagah) - 2
yeh yeh yeh jindagi roshan huyi hai usake noor se
dil ko sachchi khushi haasil huyi hai usake ishq se
mujhko abb har ghadi, woh har ghadi, usakaa hi suroor hai
de de woh usako haan usako hi aankhen??? majboor hai
dhadkan dhadkan ya saanson mein
raatein raatein ya khaabon mein

shaame shaame ya subaho mein
shaamil shaamil woh har pal mein
har dum har dum woh baaton mein, mere rahi hai kahin woh woh woh...
woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee
woh woh woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee........
(usako paake paaya maine saara jahaan
rab usako karana na kabhi bhi juda) - 2
woh woh abb bandagi shaamil huyi, hai meri ?? mein
dil ko sachchi khushi haasil huyi hai usake ishq se
mujhko abb har ghadi, woh har ghadi, usakaa hi suroor hai
de de woh usako ho usako hi aankhen?? majboor hai
dhadkan dhadkan ya saanson mein
raatein raatein ya khaabon mein
sab mein sab mein wahi toh hai, ke bata doon main use
shaame shaame ya subaho mein
shaamil shaamil woh har pal mein
har dum har dum woh baaton mein, mere rahi hai kahin woh woh woh...
woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee
woh woh woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee........
woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee, woh ajnabee

Ghazal: Chandi Jaisa Ran Tera
I had vaguely remembered hearing this ghazal some time in the past and it seemed good. It must have been from a very forgettable movie, but the song stuck, and then Pankaj Udhas came out with another video for this song, and that was a very good video. Shot on the London tube and rail network, it had the sung in a situation where a young shy boy sees a girl and falls for her. She does not even look at him, till one day he finds himself sitting next to her, wondering how to make conversation, when she offers some prasad, and they get talking. I really loved the ghazal as well as the video.
Lyrics:
Chandi jaisa rang hai tera, sone jaise baal
Ek tuhi dhanvaan hai gori, baaki sub kangaal
Chandi jaisa rang hai tera, sone jaise baal
Ek tuhi dhanvaan hai gori, baaki sub kangaal
Ek tuhi dhanvaan hai gori, baaki sub kangaal
Jis reste se tu gujre, voh phoolon se bhar jaye
Jis reste se tu gujre, voh phoolon se bhar jaye
Tere pair ki komal aahat sote bhaag jagaye
Jo patthar choo le gori tu voh heera ban jaye
Tu jisko mil jaye voh, tu jisko mil jaye
Vo ho jaye malamal
Ek tuhi dhanvaan hai gori, baaki sub kangaal
Chandi jaisa rang hai tera, sone jaise baal
Ek tuhi dhanvaan hai gori, baaki sub kangaal
Jo be-rang ho us par kya kya rang jamate log
Jo be-rang ho us par kya kya rang jamate log
Tu naadaan na jane kaise roop churate log
Nazaren bhar bhar dekhen tujhko aate jaate log
Chail chabeeli rani thoda, Chail chabeeli rani thoda
ghoonghat aur nikaal
Ek tuhi dhanvaan hai gori, baaki sub kangaal
Chandi jaisa rang hai tera, sone jaise baal
Ek tuhi dhanvaan hai gori, baaki sub kangaal
Dhanak ghata kaliyan aur tare sub hain tere roop
Dhanak ghata kaliyan aur tare sub hain tera roop
Ghazalen hon ya geet hon mere sub mein tera roop
Yunhi chamakti rahe hamesha tere husn ki dhoop
Tujhe nazar na lage kisi ki
Tujhe nazar na lage kisi ki
Jiye hazaron saal
Ek tuhi dhanvaan hai gori, baaki sub kangaal
Chandi jaisa rang hai tera, sone jaise baal
Ek tuhi dhanvaan hai gori, baaki sub kangaal
Chandi jaisa rang hai tera, sone jaise baal
Ek tuhi dhanvaan hai gori, baaki sub kangaal
Ek tuhi dhanvaan hai gori, baaki sub kangaal
Ek tuhi dhanvaan hai gori, baaki sub kangaal

Song: Do Lafzon Ki Kahani
A beautiful song from a hard core action movie; one of Amitabh's great masala movies. The movie was released in 1979, and stars Amitabh Bachchan (in a double role), Zeenat Aman, Neetu Singh, Prem Chopra, Madan Puri, Iftekhar, Utpal Dutt and Helen. The movie was directed by Shakti Samanta (who excelled in making action movies) and the movie composer was Rahul Dev Burman (RD Burman).
A movie that combined elements of adventure, spying, police, patriotism, and foreign locales, the Great Gambler is about Amitabh (Jai) who plays a skilled gambler, who claims to have never lost a game. He is recruited by Utpal Dutt to make money from rich people and maybe get them in debt and able to do favors. Through this method, one day he manages to hook a scientist who gets blackmailed into revealing the secret of a top secret military laser.
And then Inspector Vijay (Amitabh again) is sent to get the secrets back and get Jai. And then the confusion occurs since they look so much alike that everybody gets confused. And then both of them get sent to Rome and more confusion with Neetu Singh and Zeenat Aman getting confused.
Do Lafzon Ki Kahani
Lyrics:
do labjon kee hai, dil kee kahaanee
yaa hain mohabbat yaa hain jawaanee
dil kee baato kaa, matalab naa poochho
kuchh aaur hum se, bas ab naa poochho
jis ke liye hain duniyaan diwaanee,
yaa hain mohabbat yaa hain jawaanee
ye kashtiwaalaa, kyaa gaa rahaa thaa
koee ise bhee, yaad aa rahaa thaa
kisse puraane, yaade puraanee
yaa hain mohabbat yaa hain jawaanee
is jindagee ke, din kitane kam hai
kitanee hain khushiyaa, aaur kitane gam hai
lag jaa gale se, rut hain suhaanee
yaa hain mohabbat yaa hain jawaanee

This is a song from the movie Naaraz (also spelled Naraaz or Naaraaz) that was directed by Mahesh Bhatt and released in 1994. The movie starred Atul Agnihotri, Mithun Chakraborty, Pooja Bhatt, Sonali Bendre and Gulshan Grover. This song was sung by Sonu Malik.

But before he dies, with the help of Ajay & Sonali his dreams are fulfiled of bringing water in his village.
Lyrics:
tere bin main kuchh bhi nahin mere bin tuu kuchh bhi nahin
tere saare aansuu mere meri saari khushiyaan teri
tere bin main kuchh bhi

mere bhaayi tuu mujhase kuchh kahanaa chaahataa hai
kah de naa yah adhuuri baat mujhe samajh mein nahin aati
koyi to badi baat hai bhaayi

main dil huun dhadakan tuu hai kaise bhuuluun bachapan tuu hai
yah duniyaa hai zaalim badi badaa bholaa tuu maasuum hai
ek baajuu se hogaa uthaanaa mere bhaayi tujhe ye zamin
tere saare aansuu mere
Sambhala Hain Maine

Song: Suraj Ki Garmi Se Jalte Huen
This song is one of the best devotional songs that I have ever heard. Taken from the movie Parinay, released in 1974, I have not managed to find the video of the original song. The movie was by Jaidev, and the song was sung by the Sharma Bandhu. The movie starred Romesh Sharma, Shabana Azmi and Asha Sachdev and the director was Kantilal Rathod.
Lyrics:
jaise sooraj kee gamree se jalate huye tan ko mil jaaye taruwar kee chhaayaa
ayesaa hee sukh mere man ko milaa hain main jab se sharan teree aayaa, mere raam
bhatakaa huaa meraa man thaa koee, mil naa rahaa thaa sahaaraa
laharon se ladtee huyee naaw ko jaise mil naa rahaa ho kinaaraa
us ladakhadaatee huyee naaw ko jo kisee ne kinaaraa dikhaayaa
sheetal bane aag chandan ke jaisee, raaghaw kariapaa ho jo teree
ujiyaalee poonam kee ho jaaye raaten, jo thee amaawas andheree
yug yug se pyaasee marubhoomee mein jaise saawan kaa sandes paayaa
jis raah kee manjil teraa milan ho, us par kadam main badhaoo
fulon mein khaaron mein, patazad bahaaron mein, mai naa kabhee dagamagaaoo
paanee ke pyaase ko takadeer ne jaise jee bhar ke amariat pilaayaa

Zinda (2006): A different kind of movie
This is the movie that people love to hate. There is a lot of hard violence in the movie (including using a drill on a person), it does not have any kind of social message whatsoever, and in addition, is not a original movie. On the contrary, I liked the movie. It is one of the movies that I see that is moving Bollywood away from the romance and around-tree-song dramas and more towards a fast-paced Hollywood kind of slick movie. The movie is based on acclaimed director Park Chan-Wook's Korean classic OLDBOY [released in 2003], and there are very few scenes in the movie that seem out of control or excessive. And did I mention that I really really liked the songs and the music. The song by 'Strings' was very very good, and the singing by Shibani Kashyap was also excellent.
The movie is directed by Sanjay Gupta (who had made similar fast-paced thrillers 'Kaante' and 'Musafir'), and stars Sanjay Dutt, John Abraham, Mahesh Majrekar, Lara Dutta and Celina Jaitely (in a small role). Music is by a whole set of people, Nikhil Chinnappa, Dj Nawed, Kinky Ronald, Vishal Dadlani, Shekhar Ravjiani.
The casting is great, with the movie starting and ending with Sanjay Dutt, with John Abraham coming late in the movie, oozing menace (one felt that he could have done a bit more practise on the throwing menace part). The movie is all about the harm caused to the emotions of a child, and how that develops into a full-throated revenge effort that drives a person to commit his life to that revenge. However, owing to the movie being released in an Indian setting, the ending is a bit melodramatic, and it is not very clear and logical as to what suddenly changed John Abraham.
So there is this software engineer who is married, moving to Thailand with his wife, Celina. She is about to have a kid, and things are looking good. And one day suddenly, in their water-front house, she does not see him after he heads towards the waterline (and actually she never sees him again). He is shown locked up in a cell, with just a TV for company, and with no idea as to what happened. He does not get explanations, although he gets to see what is happening in the world, and gets to eat momos all the time.
Days and weeks and months pass by, and he has no answers; he gets shaved and a hair cut after being made unconscious over a regular interval; he also starts learning martial arts from watching the TV. And in a shocking scene, he sees his wife next to him one day and she dies, and we learn that she actually died and he is suspected of the murder and is hunted. Time passes, and one day, 14 years later, he is released as suddenly as he is captured.
He starts to find out what happened to him, and he runs into Jenny (Lara Dutta) who is taking him around the city. She does not know what she is getting into. Sanjay Dutt has a phone and some money from his captors, and then John Abraham, over the phone, reveals that the reason why this entire capture happened to him was because of a malicious prank that Sanjay Dutt and Mahesh played on John's sister, and she was unable to bear the humiliation and committed suicide. He also gets to know that Sanjay had a daughter who is under the control of John. There are some terrific scenes of violence when he goes back to the place where he was kept locked up.
The rest of the movie is about the cat-and-mouse game between John and Sanjay, and how it ultimately moves towards the final confrontation.
Strings featuring John And Sanjay
Yeh Hai Meri Kahaani

Song: Akkha India Janta Hain
The song 'Akkha India Janta Hain Hum Tujhse Pyaar Karta Hain' is from a forgettable movie that came in 1992 called 'Jaan Tere Naam', made a bit of splash and then vanished. I have never seen this movie appear again on television after that, and I did not see it then, so I have no way of knowing how good this movie is. The movie starred Ronit Roy (who is now a very big television star) and Farheen. The movie was directed by Deepak Balraj Vij and produced by Jimmy Narula.
The movie is to some extent a standard college romance, and then heartbreak movie. These two are in college and love each other, and then Farheen discovers that apparently Ronit Roy has another affair and is two-timing her. She breaks up with him, and plans her marriage elsewhere. He has his own genuine reasons and the movie is about a stage when Ronit appears at her house and sings this song in order to try to woo her.
The music is by Nadeem Shravan.
Akkha India Janta Hain
Lyrics:
First Time Dekha Tumhen Ham Kho Gaya
Second Time Mein Lavh Ho Gaya
Ye Akkha India Jaanata Hai Ham Tumpe Marta Hai
Dil Kya Cheez Hai Jaanam Apani Jaan Tere Naam Karta Hai
Tere Se Marriage Karne Ko Main Bambai Se Goa Aaya
Lekin Tere Daidh Ne Mujhko Red Signal Dikhalaaya
Father Se Tere Kya Lena Mujhe
Tu Chaahe Mujhako Main Chaahun Tujhe
Ye Akkha India Jaanta Hai Ham Tumpe Marata Hai
Dil Kya Cheez Hai Jaanam Apani Jaan Tere Naam Karata Hai
Main Teri Chaahat Mein Jaanam Ban Baitha Deevaana
Lekin Toone Pyaar Ko Mere Na Samajha Na Jaana
Meri Jaan Kar Le Tu Jitana Sitam
Chhodenge Na Teri Chaahat Sanam
Ye Akkha India Jaanta Hai Ham Tumpe Marata Hai
Dil Kya Cheez Hai Jaanam Apani Jaan Tere Naam Karata Hai

Movie: Kalyug (2005)
Kalyug was a movie released in 2005 by the Bhatt family, being produced by Mahesh Bhatt & Mukesh Bhatt, and directed by Mohit Suri. The movie was a departure from the traditional movies about romance and the same, instead taking a hard look at the world of the porn industry. This is a subject that is hardly ever tackled in the Indian film industry, except for the occasional movie about a prostitute. It was a well-acclaimed movie and earned some good money as well. Even though the world of the porn industry is a complicated and hidden industry, the movie took a pretty close look, and from all accounts was able to cover the happenings in the industry to some extent.
The movie has some great music by Anu Malik, and I really liked all 4 of the songs that are listed below. The songs are very hummable. Jiya Dhadak sung by Ustad Rahet Ali Khan is a great song. The song Juda Hoke Bhi captures the angst of a man who has suffered terrible blow. So what's the movie all about ? The movie is about this Kashmiri Pandit refugee in Bombay, Kunal Khemu. He meets this beautiful and innocent girl (sent for some help by his family) Smilie Suri (looking very beautiful) and they fall for each other, and eventually get married. And that is when their lives take a turn for the worse. Their wedding night is secretly photographed, and made into a sex movie; and the police arrest them for being involved in the business of making blue movies.
Smilie is unable to take the humiliation and jumps off the building, and eventually Kunal is let off bail. He has one mission in life, to get the people responsible. He heads off to Zurich to hunt for Annie (Deepal Shaw), and once he finds her, he finds that she is as much a victim as anybody else. The people responsible are others, in this case, it is Amrita Singh in her comeback role. She is a responsible business owner, and also owns the porn ring on the side. Assisting Kunal is Emraan Hashmi in a smaller role (playing the flashy owner of a sex shop), but who helps him out a great deal. The rest of the movie is about how Kunal manages to find out the truth, and break the ring.
Tujhe dekh dekh
Aadat
Juda hoke bhi
Lyrics:
juda hoke bhi tu mujhmein kahi baaki hai
palkon mein banke aansu tu chali aati hai
juda hoke bhi
waise zinda hu zindagi bin tere main
dard hi dard baaki raha hai seene mein
saans lena bhar hi yaha jeena nahi hain
ab toh aadat si hai mujhko aaise jeene mein
juda hoke bhi tu mujhmein kahi baaki hai
palkon mein banke aansu tu chali aati hai
saath mere hain tu har pal shab ke andhere mein
paas mere hain tu ujale savere savere mein
dil se dhadkan bhula dena aasan nahi hai
ab toh aadat si hai mujhko aaise jeene mein
juda hoke bhi tu mujhmein kahi baaki hai
palkon mein banke aansu tu chali aati hai
ab toh aadat si hai mujhko aaise jeene mein
yeh jo yaadein hai - 2
sabhi kaatein hai - 2
katado inhe - 2
ab toh aadat si hai mujhko
Jiya Dhadak
Lyrics:
tujhe dekh dekh sona - 2
tujhe dekh kar hain jagna
maine yeh zindagani
sang tere bitaani
tujhmein basi hain meri jaan haai
(jiya dhadak dhadak - 3
jaayen) - 2
tujhe dekh dekh sona
tujhe dekh kar hain jagna
maine yeh zindagani
sang tere bitaani
tujhmein basi hain meri jaan haai
jiya dhadak dhadak - 3
jaayen
kabse hai dil mein mere armaan kai ankahe - 2
inko tu sunle aaja chaahat ke rang chadha jaa - 2
kehna kabhi to mera maan haai
(jiya dhadak dhadak - 3
jaayen) - 2
lagta hain yeh kyu mujhe sadiyon se chaahu tujhe - 2
mere sapno mein aake apna mujhko banake - 2
mujhpe tu kar ehsaan haai
(jiya dhadak dhadak - 3
jaayen) - 2
tujhe dekh dekh sona
tujhe dekh kar hain jagna
maine yeh zindagani
sang tere hain bitani haai
(jiya dhadak dhadak - 3
jaayen) - 2
dhadak jaaye jiya
dhadak jaaye jaaye
jiya dhadak dhadak
jiya dhadak dhadak

Song: Chookar Mere Man Ko
From the movie Yaarana, this song is an extra-ordinarily beautiful song. The scenario of the song is when Neetu Singh is training Amitabh Bachchan for a stage performance, and he is unable to do it. She gets angry with him for not doing this, and asks him whether he can do this for her. He then sings this song, and after this song, he sings the stage song, 'Saara Zamana Hasino Ka Deewana'. The movie had another beautiful song, 'Tera Jaisa Yaar Kahan'. The movie starred Amitabh Bachchan, Amjad Khan, Neetu Singh, Tanuja, and the movie was directed by Rakesh Kumar with music by Rajesh Roshan.
The movie had a beautiful story of friendship between Amitabh and the late Amjad Khan (probably one of the few positive roles by Amjad Khan). Amjad Khan and Amitabh are fast childhood friends, but get separated when Amjad's mother takes him to the city. He gets rich and successful, and then calls his friend Amitabh over to make him a star. Amitabh has a good voice, trains with Neetu Singh and eventually becomes a star. Around the same time, Amjad sees his fortune vanishing, and gets into serious trouble. At this time Amitabh helps him and displays the true characters of a good friend.
Lyrics:
Chhookar Mere Man Ko Kiya Toone Kya Ishaara
Badla Yeh Mausam Lage Pyaara Jag Saara
Tu Jo Kahe Jeevan Bhar Tere Liye Maein Gaoon
Geet Tere Bolon Pe Likhta Chala Jaoon
Mere Geeton Mein Tujhe Dhoonde Jag Saara
Chhookar Mere Man Ko
Aaja Tera Aanchal Yeh Pyaar Se Maein Bhar Doon
Khushiyaan Jahan Bhar Ki Tujhko Nazar Kar Doon
Tu Hi Mera Jeevan Tu Hi Jeene Ka Sahaara
Chhookar Mere Man Ko
Saara Zamana Hasino Ka Deewana
Tera Jaisa Yaar Kahan

Tridev: A real entertainer
At near the end of the 80's came a movie that was every inch a masala movie. Tridev. It was a super-hit, with all the elements of a masala movie thrown in. There was revenge, romance, guns, explosions, a villain, a hero back from the dead, another hero who is a villager who falls for a rich and cultured girl, there is a villain who looks like a proper villain, and then there was the catchy songs. I remember that 'Oye Oye' was the most heard song when outside your house, being played in vehicles, in music stores, by shopkeepers, and for some time became the patron phrase of eve-teasers.
The movie was directed by Rajiv Rai and released in 1989, and it sort of also was the major movie in which Naseerudin Shah acts as a normal actor in a commercial movie, away from the art movies that he was so famous. There was some screaming from the art movie types about this betrayal, but I think that his response was to the effect that he also needs to be a success, and he does not see anything wrong in doing commercial movies.
The movie also led to a relationship between the director and one of his heroines. Rajiv Rai (34 years old) and Sonam (17 years old) fell in love, and eventually got married soon after.
The movie had music by Kalayanji Anandji, lyrics by Anand Bakshi, and starred the following: Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Naseeruddin Shah, Madhuri Dixit, Sonam, Sangeeta Bijlani, Anupam Kher, Amrish Puri and Raza Murad. With such a large star cast, you would expect that there would be a number of stories around the various cast members, and the movie could get complex, but in my opinion, the director did a wonderful job in terms of getting the movie together into a fluid and flowing entertainer.
After all this, the story of the movie almost seems like an after-thought, but the movie does have a story. Bhujang is the pivot around which the movie runs, he is the villain who impacts the lives of all the main characters. When Naseeruddin Shah was young, his father was killed by Bhujang in a village, and the police was unable to help. Ever since then, he is somewhat disdainful of the police force and its men. Sunny Deol is a hard policeman, very critical of criminals, and as a result of excessive use of force in one such encounter with criminals, he is sent off to police lines. When in Bombay, he was a strong force against the illegal activities of Bhujang and his sons. He is supported by the police commissioner Anupam Kher, and is also in love with the commissioner's daughter, Madhuri Dixit.
At one time, Bhujang kidnaps Madhuri to get one of his men free, and Anupam Kher refuses to do anything, and it is then Jackie Shroff (Anupam's son) defies his dad and breaks into the jail and frees the person. Since he is now hunted by the police, Jackie joins the gang and soon falls for Sangeeta Bijlani, who is with the gang to avenge a past harm that Bhujang did. The characters start meeting in terms of Sonam (daughter of Raza Murad)coming to the village for a shoot and meets Naseeruddin and they start liking each other. Sunny is posted in the same village, and soon he has a violent run-in with Naseeruddin, but they like each and becomes friends. The rest of the movie is about how these characters join hands, and fight Bhujang and his men and eventually defeat them.
Songs from the movie:
